Chicago: 2 killed In Pilsen & 3 Others Wounded In City Shootings

Two people were killed and at least three others were wounded in separate shootings across Chicago since Friday night, police said.

Two men were shot to death in the Pilsen neighborhood. Police were called to the 1000 block of West 18th Street about 1:35 a.m. and found the men unresponsive in a car, authorities said.

The two men had been sitting in a parked car when someone walked up and opened fire, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

One victim, a 22-year-old man, has documented gang ties, police said. He was identified as Santos Bueno of the 7900 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue. The other victim was identified as Johnathan Ramirez, 18, with no known address, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

For hours following the shooting, police taped off a stretch of West 18th between Carpenter and Miller streets. Some onlookers watched as police investigated. The victims were in a silver sedan, and two doors were ajar after the shooting. The driver’s window and driver’s side passenger window had been shot out.

In the non-fatal shootings, a 38-year-old man was wounded in Austin on the West Side.

About 4:30 a.m., the man walked into Loretto Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. He told police he had been sitting in a car in the 4700 block of West Van Buren Street when three people got out of a passing vehicle and opened fire.

The man was driven to Loretto Hospital where he was listed in good condition.

Hours earlier, a 24-year-old man was hospitalized early Saturday after a shooting in University Village on the Near West Side.

The man walked into University of Illinois Medical Center after his foot was grazed by a bullet, Gaines said.

The man told police the shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of South Loomis Street. He was listed in good condition.

Late Friday night, a man was wounded in a driveby shooting in Gage Park on the Southwest Side.

The 36-year-old man was walking in the 3400 block of West 52nd Street about 9:45 p.m. when someone in a passing vehicle fired shots, Gaines said.

The victim was shot in the chest and elbow. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Gaines said.

Police did not immediately provide the man’s condition and did not have a description of the gunman’s vehicle.

No one was in custody in any of the shootings as of early Saturday.

At least three others were wounded in separate shootings on the South Side on Friday afternoon.
