Chicago: Former Mayor Daley taken to ICU

Former Mayor Richard M. Daley was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital Friday evening after returning from Arizona, a spokesman said.

Daley, 71, was taken by ambulance to the hospital after he felt ill following a business trip in Arizona, according to a news release.

On the flight back, Daley became disoriented, said spokesman Rick Jasculca. Daley was able to walk off the plane, though a ambulance was waiting for precautions, Jasculca said. A top Chicago Fire Department official was at Midway Airport to greet Daley who was on a private plane, sources said.

The Chicago Fire Department was alerted of a 911 in progress while the plane was in the transit, a source said.  Daley is in Northwestern’s ICU for monitoring and evaluation.

“Now they’re just running test,” Jasculca said.  Daley’s family is with him and they are visiting between tests, the release says.
