A mother of a 6-Year old girl is furious once she found out school officials called the police on her 6-year old daughter and allowing them to put her in handcuffs for allegedly stealing candy from under the teacher’s desk.
Per the little girl, “They hurted,” said 6-year-old Madisyn Moore of the handcuffs. “He snatched me out of my class. He made me get out in my handcuffs.”
After arriving at Fernwood Elementary School, Marlena Wordlaw, the girl’s mother said she was outraged at how her child was being handled and she confronted the security guard at the school.
She asked the Security officer,” Why do you have my baby in cuffs”? which he replied, ” ‘because I’m trying to teach them to stop taking stuff that don’t belong to them’.”
The little girls mom said the whole situation was completely out of control and that this all took place under the stairs of the school which made the situation worse because as the girl cried out of fear, the security guard said, ” ‘I’m doing my job, I’m trying to teach her a lesson’.”
As of yet, Chicago Public School has not issued any formal statements however the principal of Fernwood Elementary School has apologized to the family.
