LADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The autopsy for a Bladen County teen found dead in August says he died from asphyxia due to hanging. The report shows no indication of foul play.

Lennon Lacy was found hanging from a swing set Aug. 29. The autopsy describes injuries around Lacy’s neck consistent with the cut noose sent to the medical examiner with the body.

There had been speculation in the community that Lacy’s death was not a suicide. The family’s attorney, Allen Rogers, says the mortician who handled Lacy’s body saw a lump on Lacy’s head when he first got the body, but the autopsy report says nothing about it.

The autopsy also said it was reported that Lacy had been depressed from the recent death of his uncle.

Rogers says while the medical examination seems thorough, there are other things that need to be investigated before anyone jumps to conclusions. One simple thing, the lawyer says: Lacy wasn’t even wearing his own shoes.

“How does a 17-year old who’s up at 11:00 at night, washing and getting his clothes ready for a football game — who has a brand new pair of Jordans that he got for the school year — wake up the next morning, and he’s hanging from an apparatus with some strange person’s shoes on?” Rogers said.

Rogers also said while the autopsy did indicate that Lacy died of suffocation due to hanging, there was no indication that it was self inflicted.

Rogers says the investigation is still ongoing and he has been working closely with the SBI and the District Attorney to get some of these questions answered.

DA Jon David said he could not yet comment with the investigation continuing. But he had previously said there has been no signs of any foul play.
