Two men and a 14 year old boy were indicted Tuesday with the brutal killing of a 16 year old Baltimore girl who was found burned and bound in her grandmother’s torched home.
Arnesha Bowers was found dead in her grandmother’s home on June 7. Police said she was kidnapped, raped, and her genitals set on fire to destroy evidence of the assault. Investigators said the culprits then set on the home on fire — all carried out as part of a “gang initiation.”
Bloods gang members Adonay Dixon and John Childs will have to answer for those charges. Raeshawn Rivers, 14, will also be charged as an adult in this case, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said. (See video above.)
Police said Rivers knew Bowers the best. The two would occasionally “hang out.”
Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said Bowers had been killed in a “horrifying, unimaginable manner,” adding that this crime was an act of “pure evil.”
The three men were formally charged with murder, arson, rape, burglary, kidnapping, false imprisonment, gang participation, robbery with a deadly weapon, carrying a deadly weapon, in addition to a number of conspiracy charges.
Mosby said she called the press conference to demonstrate transparency and cooperation between police and her office, at a time when faith in law enforcement is low in Baltimore
